PLASTIC SURGERY

The earliest traces of plastic surgery date back to 1000 B.C. The first plastic surgery procedures were performed in ancient India where they specialized in nose surgery, since most offences were punishable by cutting off the offender's nose. The ancient Indian method of nose reconstruction has prevailed, basically unchanged, until nowadays.

The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans also practiced plastic surgery, attempting to stop the clock and preserve youth and beauty.

Nowadays plastic surgery is a modern, dynamically developing field of medicine. Its breakdown into cosmetic and reconstructive surgery comes from the ancient times and is still applicable. The former beautifies, the latter reconstructs or recreates body parts bearing post-traumatic scars, burns or deformities.
